Congratulations to John Oladunjoye and Archie Goodliff on representing Berkshire at the South Region Inter Counties championships at Kingston on Sunday 27th July. The Boys competition was a very high standard across all events. John competed well in the 100m (5th 13.2 sec), 200m (10th 28.08) and long jump (7th 4.65m). Archie, in his first year as an U13 athlete, competed strongly in the javelin (33.64m) and discus (18.53m).
Congratulations to Morgan Lake as she continued her fantastic year and in particular her sensational World Junior Championships and was crowned double IAAF world junior champion with victory in the high jump in Eugene Oregon.
Morgan cleared a best height of 1.93cm.
She said: “I still can’t really get over it. I was hoping to get one medal here and maybe another in two years’ time but to get two medals here, I’m really happy. Both titles mean the same amount to me, but the high jump was a bit of a surprise today so I’m really happy with that.”
Morgan Lake, who began her athletics career at Slough Junior AC, became World Junior heptathlon champion yesterday in Eugene Oregon.
Having set a personal best (1.94m – also a new junior world best) in the high jump Morgan led after day 1. On day 2 she set another new PB this time in the javelin (41.64m) to score a total of 6,148 points at the end of the 2 days, a new world leading best with the new weights.
An elated Morgan said: “I don’t even think it’s sunk in yet, I’m so happy. I’ve wanted it for so long, I haven’t really spoken about it with anyone because I didn’t want to jinx it.
“In the 800m I was so dead at the end, I’d pushed at 200m to go when maybe I should have gone at 150m or 100m but I was just trying to make the line. The world youth record means everything too, it’s what I train for so I’m really happy.”
A hot day in Andover saw many outstanding performances across all of the age groups and many new PB’s and SB’s for those athletes competing for the club. Well done to everyone.
In the U13 Girls Alice Nanton, back from school and requesting she could continue to represent the club she has been a member of for so many years, competed very strongly in both the field (shot Grade 4 6.82m; long jump Grade 4 4.03m) and on the track (100m Grade 3 14.0sec); Hope continued her improvement (100m Grade 3 14.0 sec; 70mH Grade 4 12.9 sec); Amy Young ran very strongly once again (200m Grade 4 30.2 sec; 800m Grade 3 2:32.6mins); Autumn threw well (discus Grade 4 14.74m) with Isabel Idle (javelin Grade 4 15.84m) along with great support from the other girls on the team who all ran, jumped and threw to come 3rd in the U13 Girls match - a great result.
There were also some strong performances in the U15 Girls with Ellysha Franklin (another one returning to support the club) setting a new club record in the 300m (Grade 4 44.4 sec) and achieving a Grade 3 (12.6 sec) in the 75mH. Josie Tizzard set a new club record in the discus with a throw of 21.05m achieving a Grade 4 and just reward for the dedication and commitment Josie has shown over the years she has been a Slough Junior athlete.
Our U13 Boys competed with great determination and character throughout the day winning their match. There were many highlights; John Oladunjoye Grade 1 in both long jump (4.96 m) and 200m (26.6 sec); Ross McGarvie Grade 4 800m 2:32.7; Max McGarvie battling it out with Sammy March in the 1500m both gaining a Grade 3 performance and Max setting a new club record as he pipped Sammy to the line in a time of 4:57.5; Harrison Thorne (long jump Grade 4 4.34m; high jump Grade 1 1.45m; shot Grade 4 7.61m); Archie Goodliff (discus Grade 4 16.95m; javelin Grade 1 33.02); Nathan Smith (discus Grade 4 16.10m; javelin Grade 3 26.25m).
In the U15 Boys we battled hard to come 2nd in the match again with a number of outstanding individual performances supported strongly by the rest of the team without whom the overall result is not possible. Jaiquarn Ballah (100m Grade 2 11.8 sec; 200m Grade 2 24.2 sec); Adam Day (800m Grade 3 2:10.1; 300m Grade 3 39.6 sec new club record); Lucas Boyt (1500m 5:10.9 new club record); Elliott Thorne (80mH Grade 1 11.8 sec new club record; long jump Grade 1 6.26m; high jump Grade 1 1.75m new club record)
We await news on the final league positions for the QuadKids who all rose to the challenge of scoring as many points as possible to win the overall league title - as ever it will be close!
The Boys team was led by Connor Rapecki (258 points) and Elijah Oladunjoye (255 points) with excellent performances also from Akeem Willis and Fin O’Shea and looking to the future Malachi Ballah (still an U11 next year) who all scored over 200 points as they came 2nd on the day with total of 934 points.
The Girls also showed great courage and determination once again led by Lucy Gryce scoring a massive 244 points. She was supported fantastically well by Amber Ingram, Jasmine Young and Lilyarna Franklin (competing in their last QuadKids for the club as they move on to the U13 age group next year) with Eva Barnett, Talia Roche, Claudia Rogers and Emily Roberts showing the strength in depth we have as they will all be competing next year as QuadKids. The girls won their match with a total of 775 points.
Congratulations to Adam Day on setting a new club record in the U15 boys 400m at Winchester with a time of 53.95 seconds
A fantastic evening of U13 athletics was enjoyed by many at Bracknell John Nike track on Wednesday.
Amongst the girls there were strong performances from Hannah Monaighan on the track and in the long jump and Rebecca Brown in the javelin. Amy Young led for much of the race in a very strong field in the 1000m eventually coming home in 3rd place and setting a new club record of 3:17.3.
The boys featured strongly throughout the evening. Kyle Fergusson and John Oladunjoye ran well all evening with Kyle coming 3rd in the 75m whilst John won both the 75m and 150m sprints. On an evening that earned John a place on the Berkshire U13 team for the South Inter-Counties match on 27th July he also won the long jump with a new championship best performance of 5.26m. Sammy March ran very strongly in the 1000m to set a new club record of 3:20.9.
In the field Nathan Smith and Archie Goodliff continued their rivalry for top spot in the javelin with Archie reclaiming his club record with a throw of 35.71m to win the competition - and gained selection to join John in the U13 County team - with Nathan 3rd on this evening with a new PB. Harrison Thorne competed strongly coming second in the shot, long jump and high jump and Xavier Aurelien also did well in the javelin and on the track.
To top a fine evening the boys won the 4x100m relay by some margin!
Congratulations to Ben Harris - Bucks - (triple jump 1st) and Elliott Thorne – Berks – (long jump 2nd) on very successful competitions at English Schools AA Championships in Birmingham on 10th / 11th July.
