Amongst the girls second places were secured by Megan and Alice running superbly well in the 2+2 lap event; Alice again this time with Emilie and 2 others in the hurdles relay and Bailey in the Grand Prix (Bailey having made a magnificent start). In the field events top 10 positions were achieved by Emilie, who won, and Alice in the standing long jump and Megan in the standing triple jump. The South Region event is widely recognised as the most competitive and of the highest standard in the country - for the statisticians amongst you a speed bounce test of less than 55 does not get into the top 6!
In the boys John and Luke demonstrated how strong we are in sprinting with a master class that earned praise from a number of Team Managers from other counties as they swept all before them in both the 1+1 lap winning by 1.0 seconds ( the same margin that covered the next 6 teams!) and in anchoring the 4x1 lap relay (only 0.8 second winning margin in this). John also produced one of the most astonishing final laps in the grand prix relay to take the Berkshire team from a fairly distant 3rd place to win their heat. In the field events the competition was as fierce as in the girls competition - 6m standing triple jump being the standard now! John continued his excellent day with an 8th place in the chest push (6.50m) and 4th in the standing long jump (1.98m); Luke came 9th in the standing triple jump (5.71) and Ross was 5th in the target throw with 15 points.
After an amazing afternoon of competition the wait for final team results was tense. The boys came 4th overall and the girls a wonderful 2nd place only 12 points behind the winners maintaining a wonderful tradition of podium finishes, where the Berkshire girls have been in 6 of the last 8 years.
Well done to all who competed and contributed to the Berkshire team performance.
