Luke McGarvie, our youngest competitor on the day was a fantastic 5th place overall in the U8 Boys competition. With a great series of results across the 5 events his standout event of the day was the 800m which he won in 3m 17.0 seconds!
In the U9 Girls Eva Barnett scored consistently well across all 5 events to record a third place finish and a 9 Step award whilst in the U9 Boys Tyler Gooden was just pipped to the podium in a very closely contested event, with similarly strong performances across the 5 events resulting in him achieving a 9 Step award.
Amber Ingram ran a superb 800m just outside 3 minutes to underline the promise she has as a middle distance runner in coming 5th overall in the U10 Girls competition, earning a 5 Star award. Hanna Selli, making her Slough Junior AC outdoor debut, had a great series of events and was awarded a 4 Star award coming 10th overall, just ahead of Madison Goodliff and Lilyarna Franklin who each also achieved a 4 Star award. Emily Oliver finished the day with a 3 Star award, which was not necessarily a reflection on her fantastic 800m performance - another one of our growing group of young middle distance runners - Finn O’Shea put his name forward for that group as he ran a very strong 800m in the Boys U10 event and won a 5 Star award.
In the U11 Girls Emilie Richardson-Tuitt ran a good hurdles and flat 75m race up against some very good opposition and in a tight finish for the 3 top places was just beaten whilst securing a 5 Star award. Ciara Comfort, also competing for the first time outdoors, ran and jumped well in securing a 3 Star award. Max McGarvie was our leading U11 Boy with a 5 Star award - another fantastic 800m run of 2m 41.37 seconds.
Alice Nanton was a 5 Star award winner; competing in a very strong U12 Girls competition she ran a very strong 100m and hurdled well as did Owenia Francis (U13 G 4 Star award). Harrison Thorne jumped extremely well throughout the day with a 1.42m high jump and 4.22m long jump helping him to secure a 5 Star award, whilst Ross McGarvie ensured the great afternoon of middle distance running by the club athletes was maintained as he completed the 800m in 2 minutes 44.26 secs on his way to a 4 Star award.
David Dhanraj ran over the hurdles and a flat 200m as well as jumping to achieve a 5 Star award and 4th place in the U13 Boys event, which was of the very highest standard.
In the U14 Girls Orla O’Shea competed very strongly particularly in the high jump (1.30m) to achieve a 4 Star award and Josie Tizzard threw the javelin particularly well and proved that throwers can also sprint pretty well en route to her 4 Star award.
Some of our more well seasoned, older athletes used the event as a very valuable and important part of their preparation for the County Schools events next weekend and Schools multi-event competitions later in the month. Each competed strongly with Ellyhsa Franklin (U14G) and Louisa Snape (U14G) both achieving 5 Star awards competing in events in which they are historically less strong, showing the value of training and competing across the full range of disciplines and not specialising too early, whilst Elliott Thorne (U14B) won the competition and a 5 Star award with a good series of long and high jumps and a very strong 200m run. Andrew Condon also ran a very strong 200m and did well in the long jump on his way to winning the U15 Boys competition and a 5 Star award.
