Slough Junior Updates, Competitions and Reminders

24/2/2015

Results Round Up
Congratulations to Lucy Gryce on setting new indoor PBs in the long jump, shot and 800m at the Lee Valley meeting on Saturday 21st February and to Joshua Patteson who was a member of the Charters School cross country team that won the Berkshire Schools U13 competition.

Regional Sportshall Final 22nd February : Results
Sunday was another fantastic day of Sportshall competition at Burgess Hill with a good representation of Slough Junior AC athletes representing the county.

In the U13 Girls Alexandra Martin came 7th in the standing long jump (6.19m); Emilie Richardson-Tuitt was 2nd in the standing long jump (2.23m) and Hope Dandjinou 5 in the 2 lap race and 4th in the vertical jump (56cm). The girls also competed in the relay helping the team to an overall 3rd place.

Harrison Thorne (shot 7.49m 10th ); John Oladunjoye (2 lap race 7th ; vertical jump 68cm 1st); and Nathan Smith (vertical jump 53cm 7th) and Klaus Mata all competed very strongly in the field events and on the track as the boys finished 4th in a very competitive U13 Boys match.

Charlotte Frate, Kaya Blair and Louisa Snape (4th 2 lap race; standing long jump 2.20m 6th and speed bounce 80 8th; 7th overall) all competed well as the U15 Girls county team came 5th.

Our U15 Boys continued what has been an outstanding year. Five of the seven strong county team are Slough Junior AC athletes. Adam Day (4 lap race 1st; speed bounce 95 1st; standing long jump 2.31m 9th=; 2nd overall); David Dhanraj (6th 2 lap race; speed bounce 80 5th=; standing triple jump 8.25m 1st; 3rd overall); Elliott Thorne (2 lap race 1st=; standing long jump 2.66m 1st; shot 12.35m 3rd; 1st overall); Jaiquarn Ballah (2 lap race 1st=; speed bounce 79 8th; standing long jump 2.40m 6th; 5th= overall) and George Mbofana who competed for the team in the 4x2 lap relay - which the boys won! In total the boys scored 673 points – the highest score by any team in the last 10 years and it is the only time in those 10 years that the top three places in the overall all rounder competition have been filled by athletes from the same county - let alone the same club. The boys now go on to represent the South East at the National Final in Manchester in April.

Well done to everyone involved.

Athletes (and parents) join Morgan Lake in high jump and long jump master class
Amber Ingram (and Bill) and Lucy Gryce (and Anna) joined former Slough Junior AC athlete and double world junior champion and new U20 British indoor high jump record holder Morgan Lake in a jumps coaching master class as part of the Sky Sports Game Changers series at TVAC on Sunday 22nd February.

Rumour has it there was a lot of lycra on show (but Bill will not release the photos) - and the girls all had a really great time as well as gaining valuable jumping tips and an insight into life as a top international athlete.
