Wessex League Match 4 Andover 20th July

24/7/2014

A hot day in Andover saw many outstanding performances across all of the age groups and many new PB’s and SB’s for those athletes competing for the club. Well done to everyone.

In the U13 Girls Alice Nanton, back from school and requesting she could continue to represent the club she has been a member of for so many years, competed very strongly in both the field (shot Grade 4 6.82m; long jump Grade 4 4.03m) and on the track (100m Grade 3 14.0sec); Hope continued her improvement (100m Grade 3 14.0 sec; 70mH Grade 4 12.9 sec); Amy Young ran very strongly once again (200m Grade 4 30.2 sec; 800m Grade 3 2:32.6mins); Autumn threw well (discus Grade 4 14.74m) with Isabel Idle (javelin Grade 4 15.84m) along with great support from the other girls on the team who all ran, jumped and threw to come 3rd in the U13 Girls match - a great result.

There were also some strong performances in the U15 Girls with Ellysha Franklin (another one returning to support the club) setting a new club record in the 300m (Grade 4 44.4 sec) and achieving a Grade 3 (12.6 sec) in the 75mH. Josie Tizzard set a new club record in the discus with a throw of 21.05m achieving a Grade 4 and just reward for the dedication and commitment Josie has shown over the years she has been a Slough Junior athlete.

Our U13 Boys competed with great determination and character throughout the day winning their match. There were many highlights; John Oladunjoye Grade 1 in both long jump (4.96 m) and 200m (26.6 sec); Ross McGarvie Grade 4 800m 2:32.7; Max McGarvie battling it out with Sammy March in the 1500m both gaining a Grade 3 performance and Max setting a new club record as he pipped Sammy to the line in a time of 4:57.5; Harrison Thorne (long jump Grade 4 4.34m; high jump Grade 1 1.45m; shot Grade 4 7.61m); Archie Goodliff (discus Grade 4 16.95m; javelin Grade 1 33.02); Nathan Smith (discus Grade 4 16.10m; javelin Grade 3 26.25m).

In the U15 Boys we battled hard to come 2nd in the match again with a number of outstanding individual performances supported strongly by the rest of the team without whom the overall result is not possible. Jaiquarn Ballah (100m Grade 2 11.8 sec; 200m Grade 2 24.2 sec); Adam Day (800m Grade 3 2:10.1; 300m Grade 3 39.6 sec new club record); Lucas Boyt (1500m 5:10.9 new club record); Elliott Thorne (80mH Grade 1 11.8 sec new club record; long jump Grade 1 6.26m; high jump Grade 1 1.75m new club record)

We await news on the final league positions for the QuadKids who all rose to the challenge of scoring as many points as possible to win the overall league title - as ever it will be close!

The Boys team was led by Connor Rapecki (258 points) and Elijah Oladunjoye (255 points) with excellent performances also from Akeem Willis and Fin O’Shea and looking to the future Malachi Ballah (still an U11 next year) who all scored over 200 points as they came 2nd on the day with total of 934 points.

The Girls also showed great courage and determination once again led by Lucy Gryce scoring a massive 244 points. She was supported fantastically well by Amber Ingram, Jasmine Young and Lilyarna Franklin (competing in their last QuadKids for the club as they move on to the U13 age group next year) with Eva Barnett, Talia Roche, Claudia Rogers and Emily Roberts showing the strength in depth we have as they will all be  competing next year as QuadKids. The girls won their match with a total of 775 points.
