At a wonderful day of club athletics in the 3rd round of the Wessex League at Woking on Sunday 6th July outstanding performances by many of our young athletes saw a number of club records tumble.
In the QuadKids events Lucy Gryce continued her amazing season once again equalling her 75m and 600m club record times. She was magnificently supported by the other athletes on both the boys and the girls teams as we maintained our lead at the top of the table despite coming narrowly 3rd over all on the day in the girls competition and 2nd in the very closely contested boys competition.
Our U15 boys had an amazing day. Jaiquarn Ballah beat the 7 year old 200m record with a time of 23.8 seconds to become the first SJAC U15 boy athlete to go under 24 seconds. Elliott Thorne bettered his own 80m hurdle record to 12.0 seconds and in the field both Elliott and Ben beat the shot record with Ben setting the new record at 12.56m.
Lucas Boyt once again ran a great 1500m only narrowly missing out on bettering his own club record set at Swindon in the last round whilst Adam Day ran superbly in the 800m again only just outside his own club record set earlier in the season.
In the U13 Boys Nathan Smith achieved a Grade 1 performance as he set a new club record for the javelin of 31.27m
In the U15 Girls Louisa Snape set a new club record 7.64m in the revised weight shot.
The day ended on a massive high for the club and in particular for the U15 Boys as they set not only a new club record but also a new Wessex League record in the 4 x 100m relay (David Dhanraj, Jaiquarn Ballah, Elliott Thorne, Ben Harris) with a time of 47.4 seconds beating Southampton in a thrilling race.
With one round left in the league we are looking very good in the QuadKids and well placed in the main league.
Congratulations to everyone on a great team effort from the admin and team management group, parents and sibling supporters through those helping with the field events and to the athletes themselves.
